Miracle-Gro®
Miracle-Gro® is the world's best selling plant food. The brand originated in 1951, when Horace Hagedorn, a marketer, and Otto Stern, a nurseryman, took a water-soluble plant food and set out to make it a gardening staple across America. Consumers loved the astonishing results of Miracle-Gro and soon the product became a mail order and then a retail success. From a $2,000 investment, the Miracle-Gro business exceeded $100 million in 1994, prior to merging with The Scotts Company in 1995. Miracle-Gro products are sold in North America and Europe.
The distinctive Miracle-Gro logo with its yellow, green and black color scheme is now on a wide-range of plant food, lawn food and growing media products.
In 2006, the Company introduced Miracle-Gro LiquaFeed®, an easy-to-hold dispenser with refill bottles, which requires no mixing and no measuring. The product automatically applies plant food evenly at the correct rate, showing that "Now Feeding is as Easy as Watering". LiquaFeed was the Company's most successful product launch ever.
All-purpose outdoor plant food, all-purpose indoor plant food and plant food for acid-loving plants, evergreens, trees, shrubs, roses, tomatoes and African violets are all sold under the Miracle-Gro brand. Plant food products come in a dry formulation as well as in liquid, tablets and spikes. Specialty plant foods include bloom booster.
Miracle-Gro also has enhanced soils and potting mixes by including its plant food along with other value-added amendments and nutrients tailored to specific uses. The brand's premium potting mix is Miracle-Gro® Moisture Control® Potting Mix, which protects plants from the effects of over- and under watering.
In the specialty soil line, Miracle-Gro sells garden soil for flowers and vegetables, roses, and trees, shrubs and ornamentals, as well as, sphagnum peat moss. All are enriched with Miracle-Gro plant food.
In addition, Miracle-Gro has several organic offerings, under the Organic Choice name. Miracle-Gro® Organic Choice® plant food, potting mixes and garden soils are formulated using only all-natural, organic materials (i.e., materials that are derived from plants or animals).
